Explosions and eruptive activity increases at Vanuatu’s Ambae volcano

July 14, 2011 VANUATU – Vanuatu’s Ambae volcano has begun spewing volcanic gases, and residents could be forced to evacuate part of the island. An expert from the Vanuatu Geohazards Observatory has been sent to monitor the volcano, which has been known to trigger earthquakes. They have measured an increase in tremor activity in the area and are expecting more explosions. If the volcano does becomes more active, people living around it will be forced to evacuate. Volcanologist Sylvain Todman, from the Vanuatu Geohazards Observatory, told Pacific Beat they were watching the situation very closely. “At the moment we have sporadic explosions but the explosions are getting bigger and bigger every time,” he said. –Australia Network News

  2. VANUATU VOLCANIC ACTIVITY BULLETIN N°1 – AMBAE ACTIVITY
    Monday, July 11th, 2011 + c/o Luisport

    AMBAE VOLCANO
    15°24’0”S 167°50’0”E Summit 4908ft (1496m)
Current Vanuatu Volcano Alert Level: Level 1

The Ambae volcano data sets that the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geohazards Department is
collecting from the Ambae volcano monitoring network shows that this volcano activity has
changed compare to its normal state of activity.

It is clear that the earthquakes that occur on the island are triggered by the volcano. The
Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) satellite images are showing that the Ambae volcano is
emitting volcanic gases (So2) to the atmosphere (see photos). Observations made on this
volcano in June 4th 2011 found out that this volcano is sometimes having small explosions in
the Crater Lake accompanied by small ash emissions locally in the caldera. This activity has
been witnessed by some villagers in the northern and the western part of the island.

According to this situation, this is a reminder that the Alert level for Ambae volcano is
at Level 1 according to the Vanuatu Volcano Alert Levels (VVAL). This means that the
state of activity of this volcano has been changed compare to its normal activity. The
area of risk to the visitors is centered within 3 km zone from the volcano crater.

You Know the meaning Of Vanuatu. The faith of her peoples? These people are lovers of Christ. I don’t know what this means in God’s glorious plan but….I know Christ and I know God Almighty is in control.
