Avalanches or is the Mount Rainer volcano waking up?

June 29, 2011 SEATTLE, WA – Some of the biggest rock avalanches in years have been roaring off Mount Rainier over the past several days, kicking up billowing clouds of dust and propelling rivers of muddy debris nearly two miles down the volcano’s flanks. No one has been injured, but one group of climbers fled as dust descended on their tent after a rock-fall Saturday afternoon. “From my standpoint of looking at the mountain for 20 years, we’ve probably had rock-falls like this once every five or 10 years,” said Stefan Lofgren, lead climbing ranger for Mount Rainier National Park. Since June 24, at least three major rock-falls and several smaller ones have sloughed off the rocky ridge called Nisqually Cleaver, at an elevation of about 12,800 feet. The one that let loose Saturday afternoon was the biggest. University of Washington graduate student Max Stevens and his father were about to head out across the Nisqually Glacier to retrieve a GPS instrument used to measure the glacier’s movement. “I heard it first and looked up and saw a house-sized block of rock falling off Nisqually Cleaver,” he said. The pair were on skis, and they skedaddled. “We got out of there,” Stevens said. “This cloud of dust just filled the basin.” When it became clear the avalanche wasn’t headed in his direction, Stevens watched the debris flow down the glacier. “There were truck-sized blocks of ice flowing like ice cubes in a stream of water,” he said. “I was scared for a moment … but it quickly turned to pure amazement.” Climbing ranger Chris Kalman was at Camp Muir, a popular day-hike destination and climbers’ bivouac at 10,080 feet on the mountain’s south side, above Paradise. The day was sunny and warm when a sound like an explosion split the air. “It was huge,” Kalman said. “People were pretty much in awe. Things like this may happen only a few times in someone’s life,” he said. Another avalanche hit Monday. The events were big enough to register on earthquake sensors, and seismologists at the University of Washington called the park to see what was going on. –Seattle Times

Above the famed Bible code prediction of the 2011 eruption of Mt. Rainer? While I don’t put stock in these coded predictions, it is interesting that this one has been circulating for the last 2 years.

Alvin this is off topic. Did you hear anything on this :

Gavin Point Dam About To EXPLODE!

The Guy seems sincere. And definitely needs prayer. Maybe this is why so many convoys of Military personnel have been deployed to those regions.

If this is true it is truly a disgrace to this Nation that the Government would continue to not warn people and if they due it is well minimized.

I tried to find something but haven’t yet.

Here is a video of the avalanche

If this was to wake up, the devastation would be unimaginable, with all that snow pack and the sudden melt off would over flow the damns and wipe out the valley. I live here in the Seattle area and I can only pray and help those who would be stricken by this, if it happens.

Alvin, I recieved your book today and I am looking forward to reading it 🙂 (ps other than the Bible it would be only the 2nd book I ever read 🙂 )

    Hi Alvin,

I am surprised you included the Bible Code as a ‘reference’. It’s quite interesting. The Bible Code might be reliable, if not virtually perfect, in its predictions. The only problem with predictions using the Bible Code is that people tend to be biased or flawed in their search and cracking of codes. But it contains at least some terrifying and revealing truth to their searches. The same goes with the interpretations of such predictions. They are subject to human judgment. Searches could be complete or needed further refinement. But again, there is some truth to it. Take for example the case of Yitzhak Rabin. We will only know the entire truth when something happens. We’ll see with Mount Rainier this time.

Thanks, Alvin. I live south of Seattle, and Mt. Rainier is a familiar site when “the mountain is out.” – Yes, there have been eruptions and apparently around 60 lahars in the past, and I’ve often wondered at it’s current quiescence, given everything else that is going on in the world. This one I’m watching verrrrry carefully .

Any volcano active within the last 10,000 years may erupt, most people in Seattle think that they are in some form of safe zone, time to wake up and smell the sulfur.

I check the volcano webicorders daily – Mt. St. Helens has had a huge uptick in activity in the last month, and Mt. Rainier is becoming more active as well. I would say 80 percent of the charts have shown a change from barely anything 6 months ago to at least some daily activity today. Definitely something stirring in the West Coast volcanos. I can see Mt. Rainier as well from my front yard – thankful that we live where the flows won’t hit our home if they come.

There is an ancient Hopi story that states at the end of the Age granddaughter whispers to grandfather and he answers with a roar. Granddaughter is Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainer is grandfather. Seeing that granddaughter’s whisper has come it is only fitting to hear grandfather roar.
