5.0 magnitude earthquake at one of planet’s hotspots

A 5.0 magnitude earthquake has struck at Tistan da Cunha at a depth of 10 km. Tristan da Cunha is an active strato-volcano formed above a magma hot-spot some 400km east of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Monitoring the world’s hotspots, where magma is ejected from deep in the planet’s mantle to the surface, is an important barometer in monitoring the pace of volcanism and seismicity across the planet.
