Sign of the Times: Doomsday bunker business booms in Russia

May 13, 2011MOSCOW – Terrorism can be good for bunker builders. An apocalypse can be even better for business. Danila Andreyev started building “panic rooms” three years ago, when fears of terrorist attacks and commercial disputes turning violent created demand in Russia. Now he’s selling “survival bunkers” for as much as $400,000 each to capitalize on angst over theories the world will end next year. “I myself am not a believer in doomsday scenarios,” Andreyev, 31, whose Spetsgeoproekt company is completing 15 bunkers at hidden locations across Russia, said at his office in central Moscow. “But when you start hearing clients talking about the end of the world, it gets you thinking.” While Russia has been a target for terrorists, with 37 people dying in a blast at Moscow’s busiest airport in January, more people are looking to protect themselves from what Andreyev calls a “global cataclysm” in 2012 based on predictions such as interpretations of the ancient Mayan calendar. Northwest Shelter Systems, a company based in Sandpoint, Idaho, that specializes in nuclear bomb shelters, has seen the number of inquiries from potential customers rise as much as 60 percent since the March tsunami and earthquake in Japan, Allen Thompson, vice president, said by e-mail. The Vivos Group, a California-based bunker builder with a website that features a meteor striking Earth, said requests for a shelter in one of its facilities jumped by 10 times since the disaster, which left about 25,000 people dead or missing. –Bloomberg

Personally I would rather be taken out of this world at time of a meterior strike than live underground indefinitely. That itself could be a slow horrible death if the planet does not stabalize as quickly as those buying these bunker think they will.

    • Do you know why John F. Kennedy said about a nuclear war?

      • jamie says:

“Today, every inhabitant of this planet must contemplate the day when this planet may no longer be habitable. Every man, woman and child lives under a nuclear sword of Damocles, hanging by the slenderest of threads, capable of being cut at any moment by accident, or miscalculation, or by madness. The weapons of war must be abolished before they abolish us.”

I am sorry if the question was rhetorical.

      • J Guffey says:

I do after reading Jamie’s comment below. lol

It seems many still haven’t quite grasped the magnitude of how utterly devastating a long-term mass nuclear event would be. Maybe it’s because I’m picturing something that will make Hiroshima look like a small firecracker.

      • John F. Kennedy said: The worst thing about nuclear war is surviving it.

Thanks Alvin. My sentiments exactly. Some of us are willing to admit we have very little control (in the scheme of things).

Everyone will need to weigh their options and make choices according to their beliefs. Those that trust in the Lord will need to continue to seek His will in all situations and pray for His mercy for all. Those that don’t know Him, will hopefully find Him.

He didn’t say He would send no trials / storms in life. He did say He would be with us through them.

God bless all my EP friends.

The ‘ONLY REAL’ shelter is God. There is a saying in Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s teachings and it goes like this: “Rake Krishna Mare Ke, Mare Krishna Rahe Ke.” which translates to “If Krishna (or God) wants to save you, who can kill you; and If Krishna (or God) wants to Kill, who can save you.”

So let’s have full faith is God and surrender to his will. Ultimately he knows what is best for us individually and collectively.

  3. Dave says:

NOAH was asked to build an ark. GOD didn’t build it for him and put all living things on it. So must we make a choice to build our own arks of this time. Even if nothing were to happen, it’s like i say to people. Do you have a fire alarm in your house. Why? most people say in case of a fire. So why not store food, water, have shelter. Why? in case of a “FIRE” to say the least. Pray for guidance and protection, and if it leads you to build an underground shelter or refuge, I say Good on you. For your lamp is full of oil.

Russia is not to be trusted or believed. They have more underground bunkers than the West realizes. I believe they can protect their population in the event of an exchange of wmd’s far better than us and recover. The cold war did not end, it just went undercover. We’ve been led to believe it was over and that we are the sole king of the hill. They are up to something.

    • Pagan says:

Maybe the Russian government is & has been preparing for Doomsday for a long time, just like the US, China, the Scandinavian countries, the Brits & many others also. I doubt they’re up to something sinister regarding a nuclear exchange because in all seriousness I believe most world governments know exactly what is transpiring with this planet & solar system & have too much going on preparing for the coming tribulations to be covertly planning any sort of insidious world domination. I think that Haiti & Japan were the portents & now these governments are working even harder to prepare in time.

My concerns are that as these events escalate, Earth Changes will cause incalculable damage to nuclear plants & other lethal industry, causing massive accidents, poisoning & death. Then, as parts of this Earth become inhabitable, nations will cast covetous eyes upon land that is. This is when, as people are dying from disease & hunger & as they are overcrowded in whatever inhospitable areas they live in, that their governments will use in desperation whatever force is necessary with whatever remnants of armies & weapons that they have left at their disposal to take those areas that arent.

  5. J Guffey says:

God told Noah to build the Ark, but so far I haven’t felt led in that direction although I do keep emergency items and supplies.

My belief is that all inhabitants of Earth may soon be facing such a catastrophic series of events that God never intended many to survive.

Just have to wonder just how earthquake, meterior, and nuclear weapon-proof those bunkers are and when would it be safe to come out. Maybe never.

  6. Gaur Nitai says:

Hare Krishna Dear Dave, What you said is true to a certain extent and I appreciate the fact that you also include prayers and guidance from God in your scheme of things … and that is what I was conveying by quoting vedic saying of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

Because, for all our best preparation, we may try to remain hunkered in a nuclear bunker with food stock for 3 months or even 3 years (very unlikely except for a handful of elitists).. but after that we do have to come out and seek protection and shelter of the lord!

We eventually depend upon his gifts of fruits, grains, rain, sunshine and intelligence.
    Thank you very much,
    Your servant

      Fellow friend,

Yes, you are so right… Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”

Since great times of trouble are here, it has made me appreciate every single moment, everyday. I thank God I am livng in this glorious celebrate life..I no longer look into the mirror and am looking at and for our wonderful it is depend on the Creator!!! to see the “breath of the creator in his creation”, to see the divine sparks being gathered, to celebrate this transitory moment with others, to be given the opportunity to be generous in his love and his light….what a day we live in!!

How wonderful it is to have the opportunity to live in this day…”do not let your heart be troubled”, “‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know Jer 3:33”.

Looking at the faces of others …they are so troubled. I don’t see the laughter anymore. I was telling my friend this the other night, they don’t laugh…It is a time to rejoice for the bridegroom draws near/the return of the Bird Tribes is happening, the gathering of the sparks is happening. Share, be generous, be wise, keep your lamps full (prepare),rejoice…keep the 7 fires burning.

      In utter love and affection,
