Climate change already decimating wildlife- worst changes will follow

May 8, 2011SALMON, Idaho — A record number of big-game animals perished this winter in parts of Montana, Idaho and Wyoming from a harsh season of unusually heavy snows and sustained cold in the Northern Rockies, state wildlife managers say. “Elk, deer and moose — those animals are having a pretty tough time,” said Wyoming Game and Fish biologist Doug Brimeyer. Snow and frigid temperatures in pockets of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming arrived earlier and lingered longer than usual, extending the time that wildlife were forced to forage on low reserves for scarce food, leading more of them to starve. Based on aerial surveys of big-game herds and signals from radio-collared animals, experts are documenting high mortality among offspring of mule deer, white-tailed deer and pronghorn antelope. This comes as big-game animals enter the last stretch of a period from mid-March through early May that is considered critical for survival. Wildlife managers estimate die-offs in the tens of thousands across thousands of square miles that span prairie in northeastern Montana, the upper Snake River basin in Idaho near Yellowstone National Park and the high country of northwestern Wyoming near the exclusive resort of Jackson. Brimeyer said the estimated death rate doubled among deer fawns in the Jackson area this year, rising to 60 percent or more from 30 percent. He said many thousands more elk have crowded the feeding grounds of the National Elk Refuge near Jackson, yet another sign of the toll winter is exacting. The trend also is pronounced in a wildlife management area near McCall in the mountains of central Idaho, where the estimated mortality rate among mule deer fawns is 90 percent this winter, compared with an average annual rate of 20 percent. –MSNBC

You would think that wildlife officials would have been aware of this prior to all the deaths. In the past the departments have helped by giving feed to these heards to help them through the tough times of harsh winters. Why did they not provide assistance this time? Their mission is to preserve and protect wildlife…shame on them for not preventing this from happening. With all the mass animal deaths that have vague explanation of why….you would think man kind would take some time to preserve these beautiful animals.

  2. One person posted a comment on this article the following. And, it is very interesting. Do you have any feedback on it?

“This is interesting, cus here in southern Oregon where i live the elk and deer populations are increasing to levels unseen in decades. I wonder if it could be because elk and deer from other states are migrating here.”

    • I think that’s just what’s happening. The animals are migrating because of hospital climatic conditions and dwindling food supplies. Thus I leave you with a quote from my book’s introduction to ponder: “To survive what’s before us; we have to take a note from the animals- mass seasonal migrations to flee areas of the Earth that will become increasingly inhospitable from the extremes of climate change…the human race will have to learn to become mobile and transmigratory if it plans to adapt and survivve the changes that are already upon us.” The Extinction Protocol, page 9,10

Very sad – seems a little foreboding of how quickly things are unraveling.

I’m wondering the same thing Devin is. Why did someone not step in and try to prevent at least some of these deaths? Especially the fawns. If they have all the time and resources to do fly overs and study them, they could have dropped some feed over along the way instead of just watching those poor animals starve to death. I understand survival of the fittest but when nature deals a cruel blow it shouldn’t mean we just sit back and do nothing when we have the capacity to help. The people responsible should be held accountable in my opinion.

Hi Alvin. I want to order your book. Is lulu the only place I can get it? I really enjoy your work as disheartening as it can be to read at times. Also in your book do you suggest a manner of survival as far as locations, supply’s etc?. I saw that you mentioned in the comments of this article to learn from the animals. That’s a valid point. I live in Southern Az, the wildlife hear looks like they are on a crack-cocaine diet. I guess if one is hungry you will eat anything.

I would of emailed you direct and not used up this comment section but I’m on my phone and it’s harder to pull up your website. Thanks for understanding and much peace to you !

    • It will be a fluid situation and I think we will have to mass migrate to avoid areas laid waste by the Earthchanges. It is for that reason that I don’t list places of refuge, though I do list the places across the globe that will be destroyed by the earthchanges. As far as supplies in an emergency, that will come in future posting. The supplies are designed for mobility or relocational survival in the event of an emergency. A_lad, as always, your presence here and insights are already appreciated.

      peace and blessings,
      Alvin

Hello, Alvin, some of the people who visit your site do not realize when these earth changes occur on a national wide level that their comfort zone will be disrupted.
That the thought of actual force/voluntary relocation and separation of families has not dawn on them.
So, in developing a survival kit they would need to consider:
        1) keeping dry (speaking from military experience) to include the feet.
        2) Sanitation
        3) military sleeping cots fold-up type gets a person off the ground can be carried in a backpack/or attached or a sleeping bag(critters crawl in).
        3) a military two-man tent(pup tent), once again, can be carried rolled up on a backpack.
        4) iodine tablets– decontaminate water
        5) keeping warm–
        6)protection-group/individual(mace/firearm)
        7) water-military type canteens.
I am not testing your intelligence but I believe what you are writing/reporting is going to happen in many parts of the Earth, even here in the US. It is like a person being told they have cancer and there is a stage of denial/disbelief.
8)Also, they need not tell everyone their business. There are those who would want to take advantage of another person
in a major disaster. They could have prepared, but would not. There is a time you have to look out for yourself and the family you have around you.
I do not have all the answers here, just some ideas, some may have better ones. It is just to help, provoke thought and action. Everyone needs emergency supplies anyway.
I do wonder on how much time do we have to prepare?
God bless, time seems to be short.

Thanks Dennis you make some valid points. I believe that this is the mother of all catastrophes and that there are things to consider such as dry feet like you mentioned. I don’t own a weapon and it may come to pass that I will need one. I hope and pray that this does not happen but all evidence points to it coming to pass
