India: 500 tremors leave Nanded residents in the grip of fear

March 20, 2011INDIA – Taking the rising scale of the tremors and the subsequent fear in the people of Nanded into account, the state government has appointed a committee of the geology experts from three renowned institutions to study the seismic activity in Nanded. With 500 incidences of tremors since 2007 -highest being 3.17 on Richter scale two weeks ago – the local administration apprehensive that if it crosses 5 on Richter scales, it could cause damage to the human lives and property. A committee of experts in geology and earth sciences from Geological Survey of India, Swami Ramanand Teerth University, Nanded and National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad has been constituted to study the micro generation. The committee will identify the most affected and vulnerable areas and the potential damage due to the tremors. State government has released the calamity fund of Rs46.66 lakh last week to facilitate the study. “This is the phenomena we have been experiencing since 2007. The villagers experience mild tremors and rumbling from the earth. The tremors are experienced generally in the post monsoon season. The latest one of 3.17 on Richter scale being the largest tremor so far. If the scale reaches 5, it could cause serious damage. We have taken the rise in scale very seriously,” said Nishikant Deshpande, resident district collector, Nanded. Of nearly 51.76 sq km of the total area of the city and rural Nanded district, more than 20 sq km is affected with the tremors. Sneh Nagar, Pawadebaug, Agricultural college, Shreya Nagar are most affected areas in Nanded. After 39 shocks in barely two hours on March 3, 2011 led to the apprehension among the people who spent two sleepless nights. The committee was constituted immediately after the tremors. –DNA India

  1. What does it mean, we see the ground splits but we also see the land is sinking? Trying not to worry, praying to God.

    • Nicholas. India has some of the most complex geology on the planet. India and the Indian plate are pushing upagainst the Eurasian plate and deforming it—which causes the Eurasian plate to exert pressure eastward towards Japan- making Japan increasingly more unstable. The Indian plate is also subducting under the Burma plate in the Indian Ocean. The Indian plate is the fastest moving plate on the planet and is believed to be so because it is relatively thinner than all other tectonic plates. All these conflicting forces are compressing India by 4 mm per year. That may not seem like a lot but such geological forces and pressure, coupled with inordinate amounts of heavy rain-fall, work to rip the terrain to pieces and eventually degrade the tensile strength of the crust. Like every country on this planet, each has their own unique set of geological oddities and each of those oddities will work in concert to hasten change across the land during this increasingly turbulent time period. We should not worry, but there can never be enough prayer.

    Praying…

“And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven”

“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” (Luke 21: 8-11, 25-28)

Before I even found your website God has been putting it on my heart to pray for people and I am constantly praying because I know that we are seeing the birth pangs.

God Bless you and thank you for this site.

Looks like recent quake activity may be ripping the BP oil site to shreds…report on this page of mass aquatic life death due to methane leaking out of “rips” on the floorbed that they are trying to stuff with some kind of cement…also is there another way to leave you these kind of messages?

    Hi Alvin,

My family and I live in the uk, what effects are we likely to see with all the global changes?
I understand that we aren’t on a fault line and there are no volcanos so I’m assuming shortages of food through crop failures or possibly the effects of a volcano in Iceland?

Sorry if this seems a little worrisome!

Thank you for keeping us informed.

    • Laura, I don’t think that’s a burden you can bear on your delicate shoulders at this moment. Rest in the comfort that you’re preparing the necessary staples for emergencies and I will be in touch by email.

What about all the earthquakes in Arkansas? Hundreds of them…Have they blamed it on the drilling in that area or is the something else? Does New Madrid run that way? Also, I knew about disaster relief drills occurring in the states surround New Madrid…I have family on disaster relief teams who did drills in TN last year. I am concerned about this area in particular…TN that is.

    • Shawnta, it is something else but it’s typical of our world to want to find simplisms for the complexity of our planetary systems. The Barnett-Shale is one of the largest natural gas basins in Louisiana and Texas and the drilling has not created the same seismic issues erupting in Arkansas. Drilling doesn’t create faults; faults react to drilling. Hydrocarbon reservoir basins are indications of past geological periods of tremendous thermal energy and pressures. Arkansas has a cadre of hotsprings, which indicates water is being heated and pressurized by magma. There is likely an ancient volcanic caldera which probably lies under Arkansas- this micro-hotspot would be considerably small in size relative to a Yellowstone and likely has a web of fissures daunting through the substrata. Arkansas borders the New Madrid fault but the Arkansas seismic activity appears to be isolated within the state.

  7. The tremors in Nanded and around Nanded are experienced since 1993. This is swarm activity. The MICROZONATION PROJECT is undertaken by S.R.T.M.U, Nanded, NGRI, Hyderabad, Science College, Nnaded, GSDA, Nande, iiit, hyderabad. The geologial, Geophysical and groundwater studies are going on for the understanding of activity
