Yucatan seismic anomaly brings tremors

January 20, 2011 – A 5.0 quake struck Chiapas Mexico at a depth of 161 km. We weren’t very surprised to see a quake strike around the Yucatan. We detected a rather unusual seismic anomaly 36 hours ago.  3 quakes are registering on the above USGS map and below is the seismograph pattern from the Yucatan for January 18 with the unusal dip in the graph.
