I read somewhere that plague went air-borne with the advent of plague pneumonia, at which time the rates of infection and mortality saw sharp increases. And one common trait between plague bacteria and these viruses is that, to them, we are “secondary” carriers; chickens and rats are their primary carriers. . .but how different (in temperature, humidity, and basic function) are our lungs, one warm-blooded, oxygen-breathing species to the next?
