Satellites imagery sees unprecedented Greenland Ice Sheet melt

July 25, 2012 – CLIMATE - For several days this month, Greenland’s surface ice cover melted over a larger area than at any time in more than 30 years of satellite observations. Nearly the entire ice cover of Greenland, from its thin, low-lying coastal edges to its 2-mile-thick (3.2-kilometer) center, experienced some degree of melting at its surface, according to measurements from three independent satellites analyzed by NASA and university scientists. On average in the summer, about half of the surface of Greenland’s ice sheet naturally melts. At high elevations, most of that melt water quickly refreezes in place. Near the coast, some of the melt water is retained by the ice sheet, and the rest is lost to the ocean. But this year the extent of ice melting at or near the surface jumped dramatically. According to satellite data, an estimated 97 percent of the ice sheet surface thawed at some point in mid-July. Researchers have not yet determined whether this extensive melt event will affect the overall volume of ice loss this summer and contribute to sea level rise. –Space Daily

    ALVIN what they omitted saying was that this happens about every 150 years….. nothing unusual in this just makes for grabber headlines

    The image used is deceptive. It makes you think the ice is gone. But the image is just showing areas that have some melt. read the details and you see it is less impressive than it would appear.

    This is why I brought this article to your attention, Alvin. It was the record warmth that melted 97% of the ice sheet within a span of 4 days. It is imperitive that we connect ALL of the anomalous dots so that we may reconsider our mental, emotional and spiritual position. We can be of better service to each other when we acknowledge the severity of our situation.

      We’re about as close to a planet-shaking catastrophe as we can get, without having one. This is one more drooping canary that has keeled over in the coal mine. I’ve been saying this for 2 years now, that change will start unfolding expontentially. It’s not what’s happening…it’s the fact that it is all happening in a compressed time frame, in concert with changes going on in the planet’s interior that’s the real cause for alarm.

        I could not agree more. To downplay or disregard ANY pertinent information regarding Earth changes is to suspend reality….something we humans have been doing since the advent of modern science. It is too late to argue over what earthquake, tsunami, CME, deluge, volcanic explosion or ice melt is the precursor to a Galactic event that will hasten the extinction of life on Earth. We are in the midst of this thing whether we would like to admit it or not.
        I have no idea what it will take to wake the sleeping souls of Earth but it appears that it will take another Epic of Gilgamesh or Noah’s Ark event to shake us from our reverie.

        I do not say these things out of fear but from a state of love and compassion. I have seen what it is like to witness people caught unaware and begging for their physical lives. It is a most unbearable scene and not easily forgotten.

        I am always honored to be associated with your work, Alvin. It ( your work ) is akin to finding an intensely fragrant rose in the midst of a most mean, desolate and barren landscape. Thank you for your unwavering dedication and love for your brothers and sisters.

        Alvin I really like your site and log on several times a day. I have your book and when I read these cryptic statements from you, I try to piece this catastrophe together. Can you please tell us what the secquence of events will be? I am having trouble putting it all together.

        The present population of Earth is about 7.1 billion. If there are 75 million people left alive on this planet, by the time all these changes run their full course, I would be surprised…though I doubt I’ll be around to see it. That’s how drastic the change will be.

    Let’s not forget the reason the name is Greenland is because the land used to be mild and green a long time ago!!

      I’m glad you mentioned that, yamkin. I was thinking the same thing when I read the headline Early settlers were were caught by surprise when the ice returned.

      I do agree with Alvin, it’s not the fact that all of these are happening, it’s that they’re happening so fast all at once it seems.

      Vikings had a small population on greenland ~1000-1200 yrs ago, abandod most likely because of colder weather

      There was a period of warming between 800AD and 1300AD, during the time when the Vikings went exploring. I don’t know what the status of Greenland’s ice was at this time, but the record shows that all of the western U.S. and southern Canada became an arid desert, receiving about 1/4 the rainfall they get today. Normal by planetary standards, but not normal for an advanced global civilization stretched to the limit with factory food production, totally dependent on its transport and power grids. In those days, people survived because they accepted what was happening to them and adapted to it. We probably can’t do that quickly enough to save ourselves.

    This is just another try by the environmental talibans to scare people. This thing is completely normal, and 97% didn’t melt – but 97% of the icecap has been showing sign of STARTING to melt. By the way, the last couple of years the icecap in Greenland have become thicker, it doesn’t say a word about that in the news…

      Nothing is normal that’s happening on this planet right now. So, consequently, every event is significant; because it’s unfolding in concert with more signifcant changes with the planet. A Greenland ice melt in the span of 4 days, 3,000 record high temperatures broken in the month of July, more volcanic eruptions than last year in the span of just 7 months, and record torrential rains across the globe, and droughts. If you can find a ‘normal‘ time when all this happened before; I think we’ld all love to hear about it.

      This is beyond global warming; it’s time to start worrying about ‘global survival.’

        I think that will be the fortunate or the unfortunate ones; however you look at it. That’s a worst-case-scenario, if everything that’s building erupts in concert. I think this is more about the will to survive, the destiny of those chosen to, and so on…than anything else. There’s a reason there’s drawings on caves in early history; it’s because people were likely residing there seeking refuge from volcanic eruptions. I don’t think the rich have the fortitude to get through this. I think about 1% of the planet’s population probably has the desire to survive such extreme conditions of deprivation. The 144,000, mentioned in the book of Revelation, will go through this period and survive.

        Alvin, I agree, in part, about the will to survive, but I believe it will also be about the Will of God. The rich trust in their gold and silver to save them. When the great Babylon falls, it will be the merchants of the earth (the rich) that will weep and mourn. (ref Revelation 18:11). And the kings of the earth, great men, rich men, will hide in the rocks of the mountains and beg for the rocks to hide them from the wrath of the Lord. (ref Revelation 6:15-16). Yes, those who know the Lord will also die (outside of the 144,000), but at least they will know that their eternal destiny is different from those who relied only on the things of this world.

        At this point, it’s all about saving your soul. The changes now are irreversible, and we will watch things only worsen with each passing day, with a mounting sense of dread. Just when you think it couldn’t get any worse, along comes another more troubling post. This has been the story for the last 2 years and, sadly, will continue to be it.

        Alvin, firstly you are providing a great service please keep up the good work. I would put myself in the 1% of humanity that would want to survive, but I do not want to survive for me, I want to survive for humanity. I have a medical condition that requires medication and without this medication would limit my time, but even if I survived long enough to help in some small way the remaining attempt to and with Gods help build a far better world than the one we are about to leave behind.

    What Alvin stated regarding these changes happening within the Earth is very important. We know that magma has been rising towards the surface of the arctic areas as we saw with the volcano not so long ago that stopped air traffic. Many people in scandanavia heat their homes with below ground heat. This is the peak of summer in the arctic as the sun is just starting to set after staying above the horizon for a month . I think the problem is that the ground is warming from below and that is melting more ice and add continuous sunshine to the now exposed and drying surface and it will heat up more extensively. I want to reiterate however what Alvin and others have stated; All of these natural anomolies are happening in a more rapid pace and many are catalysts for other anomolies to take place. Add to this the already busted world economy and flares of angst amongst countries and bizarre crimes happening all around the world and I would say Jesus is trying to wake us up from a deep slumber… Alvin has woken to the alarm. Many of us have also and we must alert the other residents who are still asleep so that they will not perish to an eternity of hell.

    Correct me if I am wrong, but we had a major CME that was surpose to “glance” us happen within 3 days prior to the begaining of this melting event? Perhaps the “glance” was at the northern regions. If my hypothesis is true (guessing because I do not have the time to research at this moment) then this would prove the power of neutrinos affect to the earth.
