It’s back: Middle Ages scourge of Black Death popping up in affluent regions of U.S.

June 14, 2012 HEALTH Although the plague is typically considered a remnant of the Middle Ages, when unsanitary conditions and rodent infestations prevailed amid the squalor of poverty, this rare but deadly disease appears to be spreading through wealthier communities in New Mexico, researchers report. Why the plague is popping up in affluent neighborhoods isn’t completely clear, the experts added. “Where human plague cases occur is linked to where people live and how people interact with their environment,” noted lead researcher Anna Schotthoefer, from the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation in Wisconsin. “These factors may change over time, necessitating periodic reassessments of the factors that put people at risk.” This latest study confirms previous reports that living within or close to the natural environments that support plague is a risk factor for human plague, Schotthoefer said. Plague is caused by a fast-moving bacteria, known as Yersinia pestis, that is spread through flea bites (bubonic plague) or through the air (pneumonic plague). The new report comes on the heels of the hospitalization on June 8 of an Oregon man in his 50s with what experts suspect is plague. According to The Oregon Live, the man got sick a few days after being bitten as he tried to get a mouse away from a stray cat. The cat died days later, the paper said, and the man remains in critical condition. For the new study, published in the July issue of Emerging Infectious Diseases, the researchers used U.S. Census Bureau data to pinpoint the location and socioeconomic status of plague patients. About 11 cases of plague a year have occurred in the United States since 1976, with most cases found in New Mexico. Plague has also been reported in a handful of other states. Although many cases were in areas where the habitat supports rodents and fleas, the researchers also found cases occurring in more upper-class neighborhoods. In the 1980s, most cases occurred where housing conditions were poor, but more recently cases have been reported in affluent areas of Santa Fe and Albuquerque, the investigators found. “The shift from poorer to more affluent regions of New Mexico was a surprise, and suggests that homeowners in these newly developed areas should be educated about the risks of plague,” Schotthoefer said. Schotthoefer noted that these more affluent areas where plague occurred were regions where new housing developments had been built in habitats that support the wild reservoirs of plague, which include ground squirrels and wood rats. Bubonic plague starts with painful swellings (buboes) of the lymph nodes, which appear in the armpits, legs, neck or groin. Buboes are at first a red color, then they turn a dark purple color, or black. Pneumonic plague starts by infecting the lungs. Other symptoms include a very high fever, delirium, vomiting, muscle pains, bleeding in the lungs and disorientation. In the 14th century, a plague called the Black Death killed an estimated 30 percent to 60 percent of the European population. Victims died quickly, within days after being infected. –Yahoo News

Okay this is starting to get scary. Typhus is being reported in Santa Ana Orange County California they are saying it was Feral Cats. Cysticercosis is being misdiagnosed as Brain Tumors and I am positive that other Parasitical Symptoms are being over looked as well. I had my doctor tell me when I asked him to treat me for Intestinal Parasites say that it was considered a 3rd World problem .. I contested have you not seen all the people coming from 3rd World Countries?!!! The Medical community is not prepared at all .. We had a better chance with the Generations prior who were fresh off the Line from this stuff honestly. It is my opinion that the Medical community is probably so vulnerable to lawsuits from Intestinal Parasites alone. Illegal immigration is one of the main contributing factors along with the Pristine State of Denial that our generation practices.

The Bible told us ‘perilous times shall come‘ which means we should be prepared in soul first and foremost for the winds that will rage from the tempest. Even to the consternation of the elect, events before us will move with astonishing speed to hasten their own ends.

May God guide each of our boats safely home to port,

It never made sense to me that people should be all together without enough rroom to grow or hunt their own food. There is enough land for all Americans, yet, somehow we have allowed our government to claim ownership of all this vacant land, just to leave it undeveloped. We work hard alll of our lives and if we are lucky we end up with a place of our own. I think the American people should demand that land be opened up for homesteading. being packed so close together we are just waiting for the next big disease to come and wipe us out.

      • I understand your concern but in some ways, it’s good there is land left for conservation. Being in a land of plenty has also bred indifference in the masses and that is equally disturbing. We waste and mismanage too many resources as a society. Concrete suburbias 30 miles from cities, where mass transit is incapable of reaching, SUVs with one baby seat in the back while people jet-set between shopping malls, using 25% of all the world’s energy and throwing away enough food each day to feed 1/4 of the world is also disconcerting.

Therese D, there are natural treatments for parasites. I-Herb is an excellent online store and the main treatment is Rascal, Cloves, and Wormwood Combination. I used the Kroeger Herb brand. These three will kill most if not all parasites. Many people have used this comination and Ojibwa Tea for cancer treatment. Natural rememdies are the way to go these days. Also, milk thistle is excellent for de-toxing the liver. You can take this after you have cleansed. Hope this helps.

  3. I’m in New Mexico, and there are indeed some upscale “tract” homes outside of Santa Fe. The VERY high priced ones are well built, but some of those in upper mid-range are made entirely with synthetic products, such as fake wood cabinets and panels from China. I don’t know if such toxicity encourages bugs, wouldn’t think so. People do spend a lot of time here outdoors on their decks, because the weather usually allows outdoor living, although shading is a must in this super hot dry year. It’s always too hot and dry for me here…I wish I were in the PNW with the earthquakes. I don’t have any of those mentioned varmints in my backyard, just my lovable vegetarian wild rabbits. I won’t get near one—they wouldn’t allow it anyway, but they say “hello”.

What do you think about treating (people and pets) with Sovereign Silver? It’s only10 ppm. You can bolster your immunity even if you’re not sick. You can buy it at the health food and vitamin shops — or even stronger colloidal silver, if necessary, i.e. 150 ppm —- which you can make yourself or purchase.

My wife and I have had success with treating colds and such with colloidal silver, and back Christmas of 2004 I came down with flu and viral pneumonia at the same time. Self-employed, no health insurance, but I took that stuff (still working, too) and am convinced it helped, though it took awhile to ditch the pneumonia.

And I would recommend treating open cuts with high concentration hydrogen peroxide. It burns like hell, but clears stuff out. (For instance, burnt off a suspicious mole with no adverse affects using it.) And since I live in Georgia, where flesh-eating bacteria lurks, I take no chances with lacerations.

By the way, for creepy fed trolls, these statements are my OPINION AND EXPERIENCE, NOT “MEDICAL ADVICE” OR THE “PRACTICE OF MEDICINE” !! Can’t be too careful in this accursed Police State.

Hi Alvin – Am having a problem sharing this story on Facebook as it only gives me the http website address and nothing else????? HELP…… I do live in Central Oregon and we are approximately 35 miles West of Prineville where the 50 yr old gentleman is diagnosed with the plague and in the hospital here. Prineville is also where, over the past couple of years, several young people have had Spinal Meningitis. Rather scary and I would really like to post this article on Facebook as I am in contact with many old friends and acquaintances in all of Eastern Oregon. Something to be aware and cautious of for sure. Thank you, Bobi

There has been 3 cases of plague Recently reported in Central Oregon where this man became sick. It took a few days after being bitten before he got so sick he sought medical help. I was on TEP sight(Wuhan Haze) when i first heard about this on local, Portland OR. 11pm news program. Oregon only averages 1 case of plague each year, so this isn’t normal circumstances. The area in question is High Desert along the eastern side of Cascade Mt. range. 3-4000ft avg. There has been an increase of populatuion in this area over the last 30yrs refered to as “Sage Brush Communities”. Alot of Retirees due to drier climate, “cheap” land and recreation options including resorts wiith “World Class”Golf Courses have flocked to the region. As people start moving into these “critter” infested area’s we’re going to see more cases of plauge from flea infested pets and Tick Fever from wildlife, people love to hand feed deer which are covered with ticks. Personally i think parasite disease’s will rise due to the waterway’s, mostly reservor’s and lakes that are being overwhelmed with Blue Algae Blumes. The largest parasite(39″ long wormish thing) every recorded in N. America was found in Lake Billy Chinook(located outside of Madras, OR) in aprox. 2003. Discovered by an Oregon State University group that was studing local water quality, Algae Blumes are being fed by water runoff carring fertilizers from surrounding farm lands. Needless to say, with increased population encroachment and man made pollutants in eco system, we’re seeing just the tip of the (melting) Iceberg!

To Alvin, What sane person could ever hope for an apocalypse? I believe we are comforted as we see the events the bible speaks of enfolding before us…but the comfort is KNOWING that what God has written is coming to fruition, which strengthens my belief and gives us everlasting hope in what God promised to all people that KNOW him. Atleast that is how I feel. Yet it is a bittersweet feeling. Usually there is a good scientific explanation for many of these events, but what about the ones that can’t be explained logically by anyone including a scientist? That is when I must turn to God, and read his word….that is where the clearest and simplest answer lies…. that is my comfort, and also gives me the courage to continue on without much worry. When I was a little girl and very afraid to walk a mile home from school in a terrific lightening storm, my best friend told me to just repeat “God will take care of me,” over and over, as her mother had told her whenever she was frightened. I did just that and obviously made it home intact. After that, it became my “security blanket” in times of fear…to this day!

Why, why, WHY do people think that because something can be explained “scientifically” that it has nothing to do with God??? So we have found or created words to explain what goes on around us………this does not make it any less a part of God. Maybe this is why we were forbidden to eat from the tree of knowledge, a little bit of knowledge makes us think we know it all.

To me, God is the ultimate scientist.

So, when the economy collapses and health care become nonexistent, all those old and new diseases will be back in full force. Nothing will stop them and many people will die. Plus, there is a chance that diseases would be released as a bioweapon if there is a war. Scary times, indeed.

It’s only scary if there still remains a fear of Death. Remove that fear & this world/dimension is purely existential, the cyclic motion of the universe in which we are both a part of and the totality of. The Infinite Self is the great overseer, the timelord, the gatekeeper of all knowledge & of all secrets, in all of creation. The point from which reality emerges & the point in which it also returns. External reality for eons has set an amnesia in motion within the energy field of the majority.
We are all so vast and great in our original source nature that when it is once again discovered & the dust of all 3rd dimensional appearances settles, what has been there all along will again become known & NO FEAR can remain lodged in ones own physical reality leaving only the pure, clear light of infinite consciousness, the energetic unity of all life & the vastness of all of creation. It’s the Great Awakening & it is growing & will grow stronger among many as external manifest reality collapses & the Christ within emerges, like the Phoenix from the flames. Much love, Z

I have just read the news article about the locusts that have invaded Southern California. The bad news is that the locust will be around for at least a month. That is what the media is saying anyway. They say the locust be propagating in other areas as well. They’re making reference to the locust invasion as being of Biblical proportions. They say that locust can eat twice their weight. I wonder how long it will be before they start to invade in other states? Weird events all over the globe now!

Thank you Alvin. “Let nothing disturb you.” Here’s some Rx remedies: Prayer and sitting quietly so you can identify Christ within you. Read, read, and read the Bible – as story. And for the plague, here’s a recipe used by thieves in the middle ages: Equal amounts of eucalyptus, rosemary, cinnamon, clove and lemon. Mix with base of olive oil. Approximately a tablespoon of each in a 2 oz. bottle and then fill the rest with olive oil. Repels the flea. Thieves would rub on and then go steal stuff from dead people’s houses.

This isnt anything to be concerned about, there is no pandemic happening here & the wording in the headline is misleading, because the plague has never left us, it just lies dormant, so “It’s Back” could have easily been written as “Normal Case of Annual Plague reported” The US is one of several countries that do report plague cases annually, it is when you see cases of this disease popping up all over the country, then groups of people start actually dying & then the WHO start to red flag globally that you should seriously start to be concerned for your family’s & your own welfare.

As for preventatives & cures for this horrid disease, simple sanitation probably works the best. Humans have tried everything from flagellation, blood-letting & leeching to shaving a chickens bottom, tying it to the plague victim then praying that the “badness” would be soaked up by the unfortunate chicken. Go figure.

    • You’re right, they are upon us and we have nothing to fear but fear itself as Roosevelt said. We live in a time of extraordinary challenges but our destiny is what we make of them and the world. We can beautify the most tragic experiences by engaging them and decorating them with acts of creation in places where destruction runs rampant. Caring and compassion can be balms of healing for the broken-hearted and the down-trodden. It is always important to remember that limitations don’t limit us; instead, they define who we are as individuals.
