Extreme weather events reported in skies over Australia

November 10, 2011AUSTRALIAVictoria’s State Emergency Service has responded to more than 1000 calls for help overnight after one of the wildest storms to lash the state this year. SES rescuers responded to cases of flash flooding, hail damage, people trapped in cars, unroofed homes and fallen trees. In one of the worst-hit areas, Frankston received 30 millimetres of rain in 20 minutes yesterday. Residents made more than 200 calls for help, including 150 about flooding and 40 about building damage. In Croydon several people had to be rescued from their vehicles after they became stuck in flood waters. There were another 150 reports of fallen trees, many in towns northwest of Melbourne including Castlemaine, Woodend and Maryborough. The northeast endured the worst of the storm, where 65mm of rain fell – the highest rainfall for the state. In Wodonga, several houses had their roofs ripped off. There were also reports of flooded backyards and falling trees. –News.com
Record heat: Sydney residents have sweated through what could be the hottest November night on record. Temperatures climbed to a top of 28.4C and never dipped below 26.5C, Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) duty forecaster Dmitriy Danchuk said. Previously, the hottest November night on record was in 1967, when the minimum temperature was 24.8C. The average minimum temperature for November is 15.6C. “So last night we had temperatures that were 10.9 degrees above average,” Mr Danchuk said. “That’s a pretty rare occasion. The last time we had high temperatures like this was on November 14, 1976. “This could be a record.” The highest temperature for November was recorded at 12.08am (AEDT) today, while the minimum temperature occurred at 6.01am (AEDT). Sydney’s western suburbs had a slightly cooler night, with highs of 27.4C and lows of 21.9C. The city is in for some cool relief today, with a southerly change expected about 3pm (AEDT). –News.com

That was an amazing storm last night. I watched it from my backyard, when I looked to my left and directly above, the sky was a beautiful sunny blue, when i turned my head to the right the sky was thick with heavy clouds a mixture of black, grey and an eery green and it was roaring towards us…so powerful!

Good Morning Alvin — some links (no need to post comment – I’m sure you are busy) every time my hubby travels, some “event” seems to be going on wherever he is (I’m probably looking extra hard for something to happen when he’s not home, so I’m sure that has a lot to do with it), and in the end, he always makes it home safely.

but…. he’s in Utah today, traveling to Denver overnight — so — I think I’m going to step away from the computer for a while

    4.1 in Utah http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/uu00008427.php
from Summary: Earthquakes coincide with the locations of active mines along the eastern Wasatch Plateau and western Book Cliffs. Earthquakes are generally less than M3, and most are less than M2.5. Two of the largest earthquakes were M3.8 in 1998 and 4.2 in 2000. A mining-induced earthquake of M3.9 in 2007 in the Crandall Canyon mine southwest of Price killed six miners.

    only thread up so far

I live in Utah and even though that does not make me an expert, I CAN say that eq’s are quite common here. We have several active faults of moderate importance. In fact, according to the local “real” experts, we can sometimes have more than 100/day. This one is the largest i have ever heard of in this area. Interestinly, it falls very close to a line drawn from Dugway (west of SLC) to Dulce, and the route of the supposed tunnels connecting major secret facilities…

EDIT: just found this thread: Thread: EarthQuakes******Virginia–>Arkansas—>Colorado—>Utah—->Nevada—> look at the map. Is this alignment of DUMB’s?

Those are terrifying pictures!! Have you ever seen anything like them in Australia before? Some of them look like the world is upside-down and the ocean is in the sky! It’s so surreal. Thanks for sharing them.

The same front passed over South Australia before hitting Victoria. We had hail, damaging winds & about 30mm of rain. There are about 10,000 homes still without power in my district, several vineyards have been destroyed & quite a few roofs off houses. It was the firsr vicious storm of the season – worse is to come.

Thanks Ronni – Thankfully we were spared the full fury of this storm but they werent so lucky a bit further south of here. I am dreading what is to come in the next few months if this system that just passed is any indication of our spring/summer storm season. I havent seen boiling storm clouds like I saw on Wednesday for a very long time nor seen such vicious lightning. Seems every year things just get worse.

        Blessings to you Ronni

  9. Those are some frightening clouds Gen.

Alvin, has something changed with WordPress. I used to be able to comment directly on other people comments with just my Facebook log in, but now it won’t let me. I have to go to the actual site to comment, but only under the “Leave a Reply” part. I might just have to start a blog on WordPress. It’s an idea.

Alvin – you are simply wonderful. I would jump through hoops to read EP btw.

    Much love & Light brother

  11. elijahsmom3 says:

Pagan AND Ronni are jumping through hoops! I had to do the same thing. That’s why I’m elijahsmom3. They said “ronni”, “ronnilynn”, “veronica”, “veronicalynn” and pretty much any combination having to do with my name were already taken. And I thought I was so original, but it seems there are so many of me! lol! Anyway, Alvin, at least they weren’t hoops of fire! No worries, we’re still here.

    • As I hope you always will be. Think of it as a practice exercise. Christ said: “To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna and will give him a while stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.” Revelation 2:17
