Double CME’s from Sun to graze Earth November 11-12th

November 10, 2011 – INCOMING CME? Yesterday, Nov. 9th around 1330 UT, a magnetic filament in the vicinity of sunspot complex 1342-1343 erupted, producing a M1-class solar flare and hurling a CME into space. The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory recorded the progress of the expanding plasma cloud: Although the eruption was not squarely aimed at Earth, the CME is likely to deliver a glancing blow to our planet’s magnetic field on Nov. 11th or 12th. This could add to the impact of another CME already en route. The earlier cloud was propelled by a filament eruption on Nov. 7th and is also expected to deliver a glancing blow on Nov. 11th. Analyses of these events are still preliminary, and the forecast may change. For now it is safe to say that high-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras on Nov. 11-12. –Space Watch

Ah! I was wondering if you were going to post this. I I thought it was going to hit on the 14th but your right, it’s the 12th! I posted this on another thread before I saw this post, hope you don’t mind if I quote it again here.
“Funny, I wonder in the proton flux from the x class flare created the equipment failure with the Russian probe on 8-11. It will be interesting to see if the batteries do fail on 11-11…and lets hope the nitrogen teroxide and hydrazine don’t freeze.. Another CME is expected to hit us on the 14th…interesting times up in the sky! Oh and revelation 8:11 and 11:11 is an interesting match with the story.”

Oh, how interesting. Our electricity supply flipped out where I live (in England) for a few seconds! Wonder what caused it now I’ve read this!

BTW, when I did research for the book SOLAR RAIN (2002) I learned about CMEs, flares, solar cycles, etc. and recall the scale that peaked with X-class flares; the largest one recorded (to my knowledge) was about an X-45. We are in the sites of the sun for two weeks and in danger of a “kill shot,” where an X-25 or more, could do serious damage to the planet’s communication systems and even blow out the heat coils on the Queen’s toaster…[oh, dear!]

Ah yes Earl Nash, that would be the Carrington Event in 1859. Fascinating that even when the batteries were disconnected the telegraph communication system continued working off the aurora-induced electric currents. Imagine what would happen now-a-days?! For the moment it looks like sunspot 1339 is in her last days (the one that’s been causing all the damage lately) and is showing some gradual decay. I’m almost sorry to see her go, she was so fun!! Nothing major taking her place…yet.
