30 feared dead in second bridge collapse in India in a week

October 29, 2011 – INDIA - At least 30 people, many of them women and children are feared dead after a foot bridge spanning a river in north-eastern India collapsed. At least 28 people were rescued from the Kameng River, in Arunachal Pradesh state, after the structure collapsed. India news sources said a swift current was hindering efforts to rescue those who had fallen into the water. The villagers were reportedly setting out to hunt when the suspension bridge structure gave way beneath them. It was the second bridge collapse in India within a week. Last week, some 32 people died and 132 were injured after a bridge collapsed at a political event in Darjeeling. -BBC

It is beyond logic why a nation who can produce the most advanced weapons of destruction cannot build a foot bridge sufficent to function. The amazing fact is they were a British colony who built cross country railroads with them so they could develope their own assets.
Their engineering has regressed into pre colony stone age, and or their infracture maintenance is non existant.

  Its not their engineering, newer bridges and highways are built there according to international standards. Its the maintenance of these aging structures which is lacking. especially in poorer rural regions.

Praying for those poor souls. I was on a small bridge when it collapsed it was horrible.

Email from a friend in Bangkok regarding the flooding there:

We have really dramatic conditions in the Bangkok suburbs (from where
we had to escape) and the region along the Chao Phraya River up to
more than 200 Km to the North.

Two days ago frustrated people destroyed about 10 meters of the dyke
which protects Khlong Prapa, the canal that provides drinking water to
10 million people in Bangkok…not because this would have drained
water from their own flooded area …no, just because they decided to be evil.

Now blackish poisonous water is entering Khlong Prapa and radio and TV
are already warning the Bangkok population about the coming pollution of
their drinking water. Please pray for these ten million with polluted drinking water.
In the midst of all that is going on, Please keep the people of Bangkok in your prayers
