NEW HAVEN, Conn. – (AP) — Those who ponder the mysteries of the universe and the meaning of life will be in good company over the next few days in Connecticut.
Yale University is hosting some of the world’s most noted scholars for a conference starting Thursday titled, “Why is there Anything in the Universe?” Speakers include philosophers, religious studies scholars, astrophysicists and others.
The conference runs through Sunday.
The focus: How and why the universe came to exist; whether our universe is unique; the concept of time; and whether there is a creator and, if not, what alternatives explain our existence.
Seating is limited at several sessions because of space limits and others are open by invitation only, but all conference sessions will be streamed live over the Internet for public viewing.

Geologically speaking, the 60′s saw the eruption of the strongest earthquakes in recorded history: Chile and Alaska (two countries now where quakes and volcanoes are both stirring)

This is one birthday present I can do without.
Strange month so far. Last month we were having a worldwide outbreak of 5.0 EQ’s plus.
This month, we seem to have an outbreak of social issues with some EQ’s.
Just a thought……………….

Alvin, I just want to say again that after more than a dozen years ( pre Y2k, those old thread sites with no photos that seem like another age when it comes to the web) of reading prepper doom and survivalist sites and Christian sites, there is something about this one that sets it apart as perhaps the most significant site I know of. The quality and quantity of the facts presented speaks for itself.
I did want to ask…..I am thinking of getting your book, but how does it differ from reading here every day? Would you consider it outdated at all by now? Just wondering. Thanks again for all you do.
First of all, thanks and glad you like and support the site and are refreshed by the flow of information from all contributants. The book is about the future and should be guide to all that will unfold. The blog helps one follow the book so you can see the processes as they unfold from reports across various media sources.

People in the forum are talking of complains of headake and diziness… saying it’s about CO and CO2 anomally… This can be dangerous?

It looks like the most intense earthquake swarms are south of the crater. Do you think the center of the eruption may shift to a different location this time?
I noticed that as well. It’s possible or in a worst case scenario, (and this could be later) it could split the island in two. Maybe the lava is not looking to erupt from an island crater- maybe it’s looking to create a new island. We have to remember this is a magma plume and that’s what plumes do in the open ocean- they create islands- like Hawaii- especially if tectonic plates are been jostled.
Looks like rifting… That may help explain the prior collapase….

Alvin, why are people thinking the 2012-2016 presidential term will be the last?
The End times is upon us…
I’ve also heard that the 2008 presidential election would be the last. With as rapidly as everything is happening, I wonder if we will see the 2012 election will take place? I know we have no way of knowing God’s timing in all of this, but what is your opinion Alvin?
I do agree that the End Times are upon us. Time is getting short and the time is now to be prepared, especially know where our faith is.

I think once the various crisis situations began converging, time will become irrelevant because at that point, it all becomes a runaway freight train. All the financial measures being touted by the world are only stop-gap measures that will buy time till next year. The volcanoes are stirring and social unrest, economic hardship all seems to be building for one bad year in 2012- and they could be just the dive off the cliff; not the fall. God’s final moves on the Earth in the final outcry of the last gospel message to a doomed world will come to a close with great speed. “For He will finish the work, and cut it short in righteous: because a short work will the Lord make upon the Earth.” Romans 9:28. It is important that we be every mindful of the fact that the Lord moves in ways, mysterious, wonderful and outside the periphery of human expectations.
That is some really scary data of seismic activity. For the good of El Hierro I hope it will be over soon. Thanks for posting Alvin!

Volcanic eruption alert on Spanish Canary Island
(AP) – 26 minutes ago
MADRID (AP) — The regional government of the Spanish Canary Island of El Hierro has issued a volcanic eruption alert following almost 10,000 small tremors recorded in the past three months.
The government posted a yellow alert — second level in a scale of four — Sunday and closed some hillside roads and a tunnel to avoid possible injury by falling rocks.
The island’s 11,000 residents have been told to monitor communications by the civil protection authority. The island was shaken late Saturday by a 4.3-magnitude quake. Seismic activity began in the area on July 17.
Like all the Canary Islands, El Hierro was formed by volcanic activity. It has some 500 volcanic cones.
hey people, looking on the earthquakes (swarm) on emsc, i’m very surprise at the regulatory distance between the earthquakes. it’s almost a matrix of earthquakes. is this natural? i don’t know but it’s strange, isn’t it? you can look at : http://www.emsc-csem.org/Earthquake/Map/gmap.php. go to the canary islands and look at gomera, where the swarm of earthquakes is located (not la palma, where the landslide could occur). here a shot i made:
