Vanuatu’s mysterious swarm: Six 5.0+ quakes in 24 hours

April 29, 2011VANUATUSix earthquakes have struck Vanuatu in 24 hours. The unique submarine topography of the region puts it on the front-line for tectonic plate convulsion and potentially destructive tsunamis. The above 1999 map shows the deep trench forming along the plate boundary. Recently, quake activity has increased in both neighboring Fiji and the Solomon Island. The entire region where Vanuatu island group is located is characterized by high volcanic and seismic activity and is part of what is often referred to as the “Pacific Ring of Fire” – an area notorious for frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. This region of the Southwest Pacific Ocean is presently responsible for about ten per cent of the total energy released by earthquakes in the world. In the Vanuatu area, subduction has formed the New Hebrides Trench and is the cause of major earthquakes and locally destructive tsunamis. The tectonic plates move at speeds averaging between 1 cm and 10 cm per year. We can only hope obstructive geological forces for a potential mega-thrust earthquake in this region of the Pacific are not building. -The Extinction Protocol

Impressive swarm in such a short time. With all the activity in the “Ring”, wonder how much more strain can be withstood before a major quake.

Thanks for keeping us informed Alvin.

I am with you J Guffey I too wonder how much more strain can be withstood before a huge quake happens and where. I know somewhere in the Ring but yet again it could suprise us where another big one could hit. :(

    God Bless

Several areas seem likely, but I fear for the US west coast since most other areas have already experienced the larger quakes.

Outside of the “Ring” I really have an uneasy feeling about New Madrid. The link below contains a published report from March 2011 showing results of the latest study on what impact could be expected if the New Madrid had a major eruption. Very alarming – estimated death toll (no tsunami involved) could be around 68, 000.

  3. I am really surprised that not more people seem to be paying attention to these quakes ?
I am not in the least religious ,But didn’t say something to the effect that the earth was going to shake yadda yadda yadda.WHO KNEW…..TEE HEE.No really, to be more serious about it .The solar storms are heating up..no pun..The significant C.M.E’s earth bound seem to be getting stronger..Strange sounds heard in different countries, that blue ball flying by the highway in the states{I’m from Toronto} Vanuatu is just getting pummeld…..What the hell is going on…semi-secret naval buildup in the Hormuz Strait…military deployment to Israel..And no news channel has said squat about much of it… let’s just wait and see..And if so ,it will be 1 great light show one way or the other..
